BRRC 25th Celebrations Planning Committee
This year, 2010, marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of our club and we plan to celebrate this auspicious occasion in style. A committee has been struck under chair Christie Reitsma to draw up plans for these celebrations. The first meeting was held Jan 4th and was attended by 15 enthusiastic and creative people. In a productive brainstorming session, many ideas were put forward. After discussion, debate, etc, the following major initiatives - there were others - made the shortlist:

  • A publication in the form of a history of the club with a synopsis to Canadian Running
  • A special commemorative t-shirt
  • A runners' recipe book complete with individual contributor's favourite picture*
  • A special banquet
*Note: Please send Eva Beattie ebeattie@ripnet.com, a running picture of yourself or family and a recipe as soon as possible. Eva wants to collect 50 recipes by the second FYB on Feb 27)

It is also planned to add and feature a celebration theme to/during one of our regular races, most likely the Canada Day or TIP.

We will keep you posted as plans develop, change, etc. Of course any ideas or suggestions how to add to the celebrations are most welcome. Forward your thoughts to Christie dc.reitsma@xplornet.com, Tony Dunbar tonyd@ripnet.com or Anne Hodgson mahodgson@ripnet.com.

Members Memories
In keeping with our marking of our club's 25 years, I'm inviting all members, but especially the long timers, to send me their memories and stories of their initial involvement with the Brockville Road Runners, what it has meant to them over the years, tales of triumph and failure, funny incidents, etc. I plan to create a special Members' Memories webpage featuring these stories. This will be a nice addition I feel to our efforts to make this a special year in our club's history. I look forward to receiving lots of submissions, complete with relevant pictures where available. My email is tonyd@ripnet.com

Pre-25th Bash; Friday Feb 19th at Sam's Brass Rack
Master Bunny Roger Hawksby is organizing what he calls a Pre-25th Bash to be held at Sam's Brass Rack on Perth Street at George. Members are invited to have a Road Runners social evening, listening to the Split Decision band, playing a game of pool and partaking of some refreshments. If interested in attending, please let Roger roger.hawksby@yahoo.ca know so he can advise Sam's Brass Rack re numbers.

Wedding Bells
Congratulations and best wishes to Cynthia Laforty and Mitch White who were married in early December. They honeymooned in Puerto Rico and are back home again in Kanata. We hope to see them back in Brockville at one of our events before long.

Way to Go Neal!
Congrats to Road Runner Neal Condron on his great performance at the recent Ontario Special Olympics Regional Games in Perth. Neal won gold medals in each of the 5K, 2.5K and 1K cross-country skiing races. This should put Neal in a good position to be selected for the regional team that will participate in the Ontario championships in Thunder Bay in February 2011. Congrats Neal!

Running Clinics
A couple of our running friends, Paula Wiltse (Elite Masters Runner) and Pat MacDougall (StayFit Global), are offering a series of 3 specialized running clinics starting February 10th.
