The 8th annual Mark Darroch Memorial Half Marathon on the Thousand Islands Parkway attracted 64 runners. Conditions were cloudy and humid but relatively cool, which made for much more comfortable running than in recent years! There was a significant number of runners from the surrounding areas, especially Kingston, as tabulated in the results below.
Winner of the men's division was Kingston's Colin Wilkinson, no stranger to Brockville - he is a 4 time winner of our annual Californai Run 10K. Colin's time was 1:20:13.Mark Hill from Kanata in 1:27:19 was second, while Kingston's Jamie Young took 3rd place in 1:28:15.
Brockville's own Elizabeth Primrose was a very impressive winner of the women's race. Beth's time of 1:28:30 was actually the next best time to Colin Wilkinson's, making her second finisher from the total field of 64. Aimee Young of Kingston was second woman in 1:40:00, while Brockville native Fiona Dunbar, in her very first half, was 3rd in 1:40:01.
A feature of the half was the fine performance of the 14 year old Shona Phillips from Kingston, who completed her first 21.1K in 2:11:07. Well done Shona!
